LOOKING FOR AN OUTDOOR ADVENTURE?
The most established mountain bike trails network in the south of Johannesburg is at Rietvlei Zoo Farm, Alberton. The family lifestyle farm offers a range of outdoor activities for all ages as well as restaurants for pre- or post-ride nourishment and refreshment. But it’s the mountain bike trails that are a main feature, attracting both locals and riders from other regions to sample the singletrack, which has been undergoing upgrades over the past few months.
The trails are diverse and take riders though grasslands, over rocky sections and through a dense black wattle forest criss-crossing a small river. There’s also a range of birdlife and small wild animals on the land.
There are now six trails, ranging in distance from 5km to 40km. This is a substantial update as previously, the longest distance trail was 22km. The trails are now as follows:
Yellow: 5km
Pink: 10km
Orange: 15km
Purple: 20km
Brown: 30km
Black: 40km
Safety: There’s a secure perimeter as well as boom-access, making Rietvlei Trails one of the safest trails parks in Gauteng.
Operating hours: 06h00-18h00 seven days a week
